Families are having to dig down into their savings…draw out their pensions…take out loans on their houses…sell things they worked hard to pay for…get second jobs…and just plain do without the necessities of everyday life to pay attorneys to fight cases that should not have happened in the first place. Cases where children have been kept from very loving fathers…because of WHAT! Because it can be done…because that is what the laws allow in this country…because that is what the custodial parent wants (mostly Mommie)… because no one cares about the children …they only care that they can do it and they do it. The money that is made from these children is a crime against children.
NOW THAT IS MY TAKE ON THE SUBJECT.
What we would like to know…if a person goes to law school and spends all that time and money to learn the profession of being an attorney…why not start every morning by placing both feet squarely on the floor and saying to one's self …”Thank you God for allowing me to wake up again this morning…and I promise to do my job today to the best of my ability and to do what is RIGHT.”
With tightness in my throat I say to you now…attorneys go to school to learn how to nit pick the law…and they earn money for doing it…to you…and to anyone that gets in their way. In way too many situations it makes no difference to them…if what they do is wrong and really hurting people in all the wrong ways…it only matters that they get paid big money for doing it.
An attorney once asked me if I wanted to nit pick the law like that…to which I replied, “Ain't that what you went to school for?” This same attorney also told me he knew the judge in our case and he knew that this judge was not going to reopen our case…funny thing was…the attorney didn't even ask me what new evidence we had…but he was sure that we could not get a new trial. I not only find something terribly wrong with this…I believe with all my heart that no one cared about our children…they were only worried they would have to face this same judge in other cases…and that would cause them big problems with their cases in the future.
I had another attorney to tell me that I would have to go out of town to get anyone to take our case when we were trying to get a new trial…and then he said…we have other cases that we have to worry about. Then he told me that he was an attorney and if I told anyone he said that…he would get me…then he laughed real big and said…you know what I mean!!!! This attorney was then and is today a very strong attorney in our town…but he would not take our case and go before this judge to try to get us a new trail. I asked him…”how much would it take”…he said…” I CANNOT TAKE THIS CASE”.
We do not under any circumstances want to give the impression that all attorneys are bad… no …they are not. We do think family law attorneys go where the money is…as most anyone would…however…we believe that you should do what is right when there are children involved… DO NOT MAKE THE CHILDREN PAY…it is not fair to them…to their fathers nor to their grandparents…their cousins…aunts…uncles…but mostly it is so unfair to the children.
Somehow there has to be a way to make family law work…protect the children the right way…and stop all the children of divorce from being hurt.
No child should have to suffer the pain of losing a parent when money is the reason for the loss. If the family is whole and daddy loses his job, and he can't pay their rent…buy groceries…pay the utilities…or…go to the doctor…do they take their children away from them…no…they give them all the help they can muster up. To take their children would be against the constitution…so why can they do this to the children when daddy doesn't live with the family and he loses his job…or for other reasons cannot pay his child support?
To us this is what family law should be about…keeping the family together…even if they do not live in the same house.
We think if more attorneys would find ways to do what is right for the children…there would be far fewer children covering those pretty little heads at night…crying cause they cannot see their daddy.
